Those that love Jesus have an inheritance waiting for them in Heaven:
1Peter 1:4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
Just as Peter made this clear above, Paul also makes it clear in Colossians 1:
Colossians 1:5 because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel,
Paul is moved to pray for those that love Jesus constantly. There is a special bond (to say the least) between those that truly love Jesus. It is difficult to explain, and is impossible for those that are not saved to understand. Those walking in the Spirit have a love and compassion for other born-again Christians that is difficult for even themselves to understand.
But Paul doesn't just pray a simple prayer for the brethren; he brings out the big guns and prays for the things that matter most; he prays that the brethren:
-be filled with the knowledge of the will of God
-be filled with Godly wisdom
-be filled with spiritual understanding
-walk worthy of The Lord
-be fully pleasing to The Lord
-be strengthened with all the might of God
-be patient and longsuffering
-be thankful to the Father, by Whom this inheritance comes
Colossians 1:9-12 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; 12 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.
Can you imagine if you had several brothers and sisters in Christ praying that all of this would be completely manifest in your life? How awesome would that be!!!?!!
What continued to jump out at me tonight as I read and re-read these verse is from verse 10; “increasing in the knowledge of Him”. We don't have full knowledge of all God's ways, and all of God's Word the minute we get saved. Neither did Paul. We must strive to increase our Godly Wisdom. We must be prepared to answer any questions regarding the hope that lies within us:
1Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;
The first half of verse 13 excludes NO ONE who has been saved. NONE of us started out in the light, but instead we were all by nature children of wrath, saved out of darkness:
Colossians 1:13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,
All of us, either are, or were in darkness as children of wrath. As such, we must be redeemed from our sin. Our sin debt MUST be paid and there is only “One Currency” that will be accepted as payment....that “Currency” is the Blood of the Son of God....The Blood of Jesus Christ is the ONLY way you can be redeemed!
Colossians 1:14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.
Stop and consider that for a minute. The One whom all things were created through and for, humbled Himself as a baby in a manger, let wicked men spit on Him, beat Him, scourge Him, mock Him and nail Him to a Cross and there are still people that think they can get in to His Kingdom by any other way!!!???!!!!
Galatians 2:21 I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain."
Colossians 1:16-17 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
John 1:3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
