Slave or Free?

There are countries in the world where kids are literally born in to slavery. Unless you are born of an elite family or royal family, you are pre-destined to bondage with no means to change your position. The thumb of oppression and brutality is nothing new, and we don't have a clue of its depths.

In Galatians 4, Paul brings us back to the parallel that God used in the life of Abraham to help us get our mind around how faith works. Essentially, faith is believing a promise.

God promised Abraham that he would be the father of many nations and his decedents would be huge in number. The problem was, Abraham was very old and so was his wife. It was determined that his wife would not be able to bear a child. After waiting for God to bring him a son, Abraham thought, “God could probably use my help”; so he impregnated one of his slave women, Hagar, and had a son by her. Then, as God ALWAYS does, He makes good on His promise to bring Abraham a son by is wife; thus giving us the parallel: A son through the bond-women and a son to the freewomen:
Galatians 4:22-23 For it is written that Abraham had two sons: the one by a bondwoman, the other by a freewoman. 23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and he of the freewoman through promise,
To strive in the flesh, by the law and/or religious ritual only leaves you as a child of bondage still. A logical question would be, “why would anyone choose to stay as a child of bondage when liberty can be had through faith in Jesus Christ?” The answer is simple, yet confusing to most: Satan has veiled the eyes of many from seeing the Truth. There are those reading this right now that will not let go of the religious rituals they have grown up with, or have come to embrace. They are so deceived that, like Paul before he was saved, they think they are in God's favor, yet it is all in vain.

Some may read this and conclude, “I am not a child of bondage, I don't adhere to any religion.” The fact is, you will be Judged under The Law whether you know it or not, whether you like it or not. Several years ago Jesse Ventura said, “religion is just a crutch for weak minded people”. He made that comment from a perch of pride and ignorance. Jesse Ventura can think he is a “man's man” all he wants, but the Truth is, he will bow to The King of kings some day. The difference is, some will bow to Jesus as Lord, and some will bow to Jesus as Judge.

Philippians 2:9-11 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
We all started out in bondage, under the law:Galatians 4:3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world.
How do we get out of bondage? How do we get redeemed? How do we get free from the law?Galatians 4:4-5 But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
There's that word adoption again! Why would I need to be adopted if I am already God's child?....Answer: YOU ARE NOT GOD'S CHILD!....until you receive Jesus Christ in faith as your Lord and Savior. There is nothing you can do to earn or deserve it.

What happens when we become children of God?....He gives us His Spirit!:
Galatians 4:6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, "Abba, Father!"

Romans 8:14-15 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father."

Are you led by The Spirit of God?
