The last couple posts we've dove in to some very crucial stuff. The first one is the single most important question you will ever answer, “are you born-again”. We also looked at what it means to be born-again. We've looked at what eternity looks like (or at least as close as we are able to understand) for those that are born-again and those that are not. We also touched on the same thing we did in James, what trials are for and how we are suppose to respond to them.
Today we are going to quickly go through 3 things:
1- What is the outcome of our faith? When you put your faith in Jesus Christ and are completely surrendered to Him, what is the result of it?
1Peter 1:8-9 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, 9 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
The Word instructs us to test ourselves in the faith:
2Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?--unless indeed you fail to meet the test!
If Jesus Christ is IN US, we belong to Him...if He is NOT IN US, we DO NOT belong to him. According to 2Corinthians 13:5 if we fail to meet the test He IS NOT in us. So, the test becomes VERY IMPORTANT! We get a little glimpse of that test in 1 Peter 1:8-9; did you catch it?
Those that are in the faith LOVE JESUS!
Those that are in the faith BELIEVE IN HIM!
Those that are in the faith rejoice and glory in Him that is beyond words or understanding.
2- The prophets foretold us about The Messiah, The Savior, The Son of God, Jesus Christ. Not only did they foretell of Him, they wanted to know, what generation would see the manifestation of The King!?! Angels wanted to know also; when will The Son of God fulfill these things?:
1Peter 1:10-12 Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, 11 inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories. 12 It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look.
WOW! The Spirit of Christ IN THE PROPHETS revealed to them that He Himself would suffer on The Cross to redeem His children. Jesus Christ ALWAYS WAS, ALWAYS WILL BE....He only manifest Himself as a man 2000 years ago!
3- As we reflect on the amazing amount of information packed in to the first 12 verses of 1Peter, how should we respond? Remember a few posts ago when we talked about proving the Bible with the Bible? We are about to see Peter instruct us in the same way Jesus did, John The Baptist did, Paul did, James did, and The Apostle John will later. God made sure that His Word left the main stuff so simple and plain that even an average idiot like me can understand it. The problem is, people don't want to hear it...what is it that is so simple, yet is so offensive and easy to ignore? God wants all men to repent and be obedient to Him:
1Peter 1:13-16 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy."
Don't be foolish, like I used to be, and think that once you are a Christian you are on auto-pilot and not accountable for your actions! Does this sound like auto-pilot to you? : “PREPARE YOUR MINDS FOR ACTION”, “DO NOT BE CONFORMED”, “BE HOLY”
Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
James 4:4 You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
