Mourning to rejoicing....interested?

I don't know exactly what the scroll is that is referred to in Revelation 5; but we do know from reading the reaction to the scroll that is AMAZING! John wept, because nobody was worthy to open the scroll. This may be the "title deed" to God's creation which symbolizes that only the One that is worthy to open it has legal right to redeem God's creation.''

Revelation 5:1-4 And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals. 2 Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, "Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?" 3 And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it.4 So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it.

Then the weeping turned to rejoicing because Jesus took the scroll because He is worthy to redeem. There are two huge points to make in this next set of verses. One-redemption comes only through through the Blood of Jesus. Two- because we are redeemed in His Blood when we repent and put our faith in Him, He makes us priests. DO NOT CONFUSE THIS WITH PRIESTS AS OUR CULTURE HAS COME TO KNOW THEM! When we belong to Christ we are a royal priesthood, God's own special people!

1Pe 2:9-10 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

Revelation 5:7-10 Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne. 8 Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And they sang a new song, saying: "You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, 10 And have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the earth."

We see mourning at the beginning of chapter 5 and this mourning turns to rejoicing! I can't help but think of the parallels of this and the experience of being born again.  Going from spiritual death to spiritual life. I am reminded of the end of chapter seven of Romans that flows in to the beginning of chapter 8. We see a picture of one being broken and hopeless until hope is presented to the one who is broken and of contrite heart.  It is then that their mourning turns to rejoicing.

Be watchful as you read below that this man desires to do the will of God. He is broken over his sin and hates it. He us saying he practices what he hates, but we will see as the verses roll in to chapter 8 that he does not stay there because it is made clear in verses 8 and 9 that those in Christ are not in the flesh any longer, but are instead are in the Spirit....and if they are not, they are not His!

Romans 7:15-8:9  For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. 16  If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. 17  But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 18  For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. 19  For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. 20  Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 21  I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. 22 For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin. 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5  For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

When we are born-again, when we are in the Spirit and the Spirit is in us we will thank, praise and worship Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. What is interesting, however, is that we see here again in Revelation 5 that every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord; except in Revelation 5 we are given even more detail. Not only will every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord, but ALL....EVERY CREATURE...will proclaim that Jesus is worthy of honor, glory and power FOREVER!

Revelation 5:13  And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying: "Blessing and honor and glory and power Be to Him who sits on the throne, And to the Lamb, forever and ever!"
