We are down to the last 2 chapters of the New Testament and through this journey I have always shared what the Lord has given me as I read; some stuff seemed pretty basic and other stuff got kind of deep; sometimes it was encouraging, and other times it was convicting. I have always maintained that I do these posts for my own accountability and growth; and if others are be blessed by them then all the Glory Goes to God and I am thankful for that. All that to say, that the first thing that came to my mind as I started reading Revelation 21 is that those in Heaven will either have no memory of loved ones that were not saved, or we will be given such understanding that it will not be upsetting that we do not see them in Heaven. It seems to me that it has to be one or the other; how else could God (who never lies) say that there will be no sorrow or crying:
Revelation 21:1-5 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." 5 Then He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said to me, "Write, for these words are true and faithful."
Do you remember at the very beginning of Revelation when Jesus said who He is:
Revelation1:8 "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End," says the Lord, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty."
In Revelation 21 He reminds us again:
Revelation 21:6-7 And He said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. 7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.
At this stage in the Revelation John has been given, as Jesus said, “It is done”. Satan has been defeated and cast in to the lake of fire forever, all men and women have been given ample time to see God’s Glory and repent, and now the bride of Christ (believers) will be ushered in to their eternal home. However, as God has done throughout His Word, He warns yet again what awaits the non-believers:
Revelation 21:8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."
Cowardly? Yes, if you don’t have the courage to stand for Christ, but instead would rather fit in to the world, than face mockery and persecution, you are what The Word calls being “of the world” and Christians are called to be “in the world” but not “of the world”.
Unbelieving? Yes, this kind of belief is a belief unto obedience to God, not just a profession of His existence.
Abominable? Yes, those that have such hatred, bitterness and envy in their heart there is no room for the Love of Christ?
Murderers? Yes, Jesus said, “He who hates his brother is a murderer”
Sexual immoral? Yes, and it is all inclusive: fornication, homosexuality, and lust
Sorcerers? Yes, those that practice witchcraft and those that use drugs to enter a “suitable” state for a “religious experience”
Idolaters? Worshipping anything or anyone, other than the One true God, the Creator
Liars? Yes…this one seems clear, one lie is enough
Take another look at that list….they will ALL have their part in the lake of fire….hell. Someone might logically say, “isn’t that everyone?” The answer is clearly, YES! That is the point, it is ALL OF US! That is what makes the Cross of Christ so AMAZING! He bore our sin on that Cross to defeat sin and death for all who will repent and put their faith in Him. On the Day of Judgment God would be Just in seeing us as cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murdering, sexual immoral, idolaters, and liars….but for all those that are born-again He sees us, instead, as being just as Righteous and Perfect as Jesus Christ. We don’t deserve it and we can’t earn it…but it’s His Will, His Way, His Law…not ours. Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart.
Nothing that causes, and no one that practices these things will be allowed in His Kingdom:
Revelation 21:22-27 But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. 24 And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it. 25 Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there shall be no night there). 26 And they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it. 27 But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.
